what is up everybody welcome back to the
 In-stitu Collective podcast on today's
show we're wrapping up the last month
 with interesting facts teachable moments
 news fun
things that are going to help you live a
 long healthy happy exciting entertaining
life oh my God I don't know that we can
live up to all of those things that you
just promised every month trying to add
a few extras in there the list is
getting long uh big month of podcasts if
you haven't done go back and listen to
the last couple of episodes been some
epic episodes starting with 199 we had
Nathan come on the episode and it was a
really good episode I really enjoyed
that one and and a lot of you guys did
as well so big thanks to reaching out
and letting us know that you enjoyed it
because Nathan is a somewhat newbie to
 the gym
and it's good to have that mindset
around the Pod uh I feel like sometimes
we can just sort of get too disconnected
with people trying to start out not
 understanding the mindsets fear
 knowledge barriers of newbie starting
out so it was good it's good to get him
on there uh and just go basically
through his routine and how we could tie
it up and get him moving and going in
the right direction to achieve his goals
 which I thought was good
 and
then I was going to say if you want to
follow if you didn't go back and listen
to that episode Nathan is following a
program written by me mac follows it and
a bunch of you guys are following it now
if you want to jump on that make sure
you become a supporter of the show uh
you can just hit the support link and
you can give us whatever you feel like
this this podcast program is going to be
 worth whether it's $3 or $3,000 a month
uh you just enter that and then I see
that pop up I'll add you to the program
and you can smash it out with this as
well um it's cool because like you'll be
in the app with us so you can see
everyone that's doing the program that
gets PRS and like we post stuff in the
feed in there and like you can fist bump
each other when people get PE it's nice
it's just a nice little place to be that
isn't social media to have a community
right yeah it's more based around
 everybody just getting exercise done
yeah so it's yeah it's pretty cool when
you know you actually hit a PR and you
get a couple of fist bumps from
everybody in there and you probably
don't even know any of them so we've got
a couple of people all around the world
now on this which is even better so not
just Australian so it's cool keep
smashing it out couple of fitness
challenges every now and then pop up on
there as well so if you do join in make
sure you give them a crack again it's
all about you and your fitness journey
not necessarily judging your scores and
everybody else it's just a bit of fun
 yeah trying something different
 then we had episode
200 with Sam uh from melow so if you've
been watching on YouTube if you're
listening Along on a podcast platform
make sure you head over YouTube just
give us a subscribe and a thumbs up does
help us grow on there a little bit um we
have been enjoying these drinks these
drinks are quite nice delicious and they
help you get nice and mellow focused I'd
say even for the podcast uh that episode
 number 200 wasn't a um wasn't paid for
we're not getting any money for doing
that when you click the link and buy a
mellow through the link in the show
notes we don't get any Kickbacks or
anything like that it's just a really
great produ product Sam is awesome and
his backstory was even better yeah uh it
was so cool just sitting there listening
him talk about it um and once you listen
to the 200th episode orican you're going
to want to get couple of cans as well so
big thanks to Sam for coming on and
sharing his story as well um next Inu
event maybe we can do a belated 200
episode event in the the future in a new
loc oh true um we be one of the first
maybe throw event there if we can time
it right we can have Mellows there for
everybody to try yeah which would be
 cool it would be
awesome um so that about us us that's
all the news I think so it's pretty
crazy that we've done 200 episodes this
 is 2011 I don't know why it's so
satisfying to me that it's like we just
closed the book for 200 and now we're
 starting the next chapter not
 necessarily like we're changing anything
but it kind of feels fresh feels
different maybe because we had some
guests so I feel like we got arrest from
talking because sometimes I get tired of
talking and I feel like I have nothing
interesting to tell you guys so it feels
I feel I feel ready today to share
um yeah what has it been like 4 years
then if this is at 2011 like one a week
for 52 weeks a year but then again we
were doing three episodes a week at one
point two episodes a week at one point
you deleted a bunch trying to think when
we started late 2021 yeah it was
definitely during Co cuz we're like what
else we might as well everyone else is
doing it yeah not many people doing it
still though um yeah I did go back and
delete a bunch they were absolutely
 terrible yeah uh don't there's still a
few up there but it's not even worth
your time trying to go back and find it
then they're not that interesting it's
just very bad us trying to get our feet
me trying to learn how to
speak like just in general I think we
both yeah I was just as bad so yeah it's
good to see that we've actually improved
on that as well anyway so new chapter
starting today I wanted to talk about
something that happened to me in uni
this week so I'm back I'm back at school
everybody will know that I'm very happy
 about that because I get
so describe me when I'm not at Uni lost
 like a sad little puppy
dog I don't know but I think that
scenario that I experienced this week
directly relates to the reason we wanted
to have Nathan on the podcast which is
being out of touch with the client
experience so in one of my classes
called counseling and virtual care we
had to do we do it all the time actually
it's only the third week and we've done
it every week um mock counseling
 sessions because obviously you can't
just learn to be a therapist and
 immediately go and start therapizing
people right so we practice and the past
week we had a therapist a client and an
observer so there's three of us in
groups and we had to just like run
through a scenario just pretend to be
the client and my classmate pretended to
be the therapist for me and then at the
end we rejoined as a group and discussed
what we learned what felt good what felt
bad and to be honest I liked being the
therapist that was cool I feel like I'm
pretty good at body language and active
listening which is mostly what therapy
is to a certain extent being The
Observer was a little hard because I did
want I was actively listening like I was
like mhm from the side and I have to not
do that as the Observer because like in
in future years like I will observe
others and others will observe me in
 professional practice always to make
sure that you have like Good Conduct
right um and then me as the client
 absolutely terrifyingly horrific I hated
it it was so hard for me to talk about
myself and not try not to be the
 professional I don't know if it's cuz I
do a lot of coaching and we do a lot of
talking on here and generally in my
 day-to-day life I Am The Listener I
think like like to ask people questions
and listen so it was really hard for me
to be the client and then when we went
 back to the
class and the teacher was like what was
hard and I was like I really struggled
to be the client because I didn't want
 to share I felt uncomfortable I didn't
know what to do with my body my eyes my
hands like was my tone of voice right or
wrong to be a client and she's like that
is an excellent experience because this
is going to remind you how your clients
are going to feel when they come to
 therapy and I was like
wow that's so true because even now I
feel like when I talk to people about
nutrition it's so second nature to me
that maybe I speak too quickly and I go
over the information too quickly and
it's like the changes aren't that bad
like you don't have to change that much
it's going to be fine when maybe I
should have more empathy slow down a
little and just remember that this is
 probably information overload and they
feel rather uncomfortable yeah and same
with going to the gym for the first time
right like not only do you have to learn
a bunch of new exercises you also have
to learn how to be mentally aware of
your body you have to navigate a
probably a new environment new people
equipment like where do I put my bag
where do I get water like what do I do
in between sets there's so many things
that Jack and I probably forget about
that is so normal for us now that as a
 newbie terrifying
yeah and I definitely forget that and
that's why it's good having Nathan it
probably be good to get Nathan in the
gym as well so one of the things I want
to do with Nathan coming on obviously we
went through his day-to-day thing his
 day-to-day routines and trying to
improve that get him back on three in
three months and then see what he's
learned what he's changed you know where
like where he's at because it does take
about 3 months to sort of get some sort
of change happening within your habits
and your body uh but also in the gym
because you know like he's following the
program he's going to have questions on
 exercises that I'm just like
well I just I I don't even have to think
about it my body does it yeah and I I
remember I was working out with somebody
could have been Julian a long time ago
and we're doing bench press and he's
going to correct my form uh and like
after the set was finished he's like oh
you did one or two reps but then you
 just automatically corrected your form
and I didn't say anything and you just
kept going and I'm like I didn't even
know like I didn't even know what he's
talking about I just did it so it's just
things like that that yeah again I'll
Overlook even people coming into the gym
for the first time like I'm just like
yeah whatever just Cru is better it's
like well hold on it's their first time
 they're probably feeling nervous so
maybe I'll walk with them and just do
one exercise with them to get them
moving or something like that um so yeah
 it's it's very it's hard to become a
newbie so it's cool to experience
something like that yeah um now that
you've done that at Uni do you think
there's anything people out there that
could sort of try and like what's
something that they could do relatable
to be newbie and see how it feels Oh you
mean to put themsel in the new in the in
a new position yeah that's really it
depends how uncomfortable you want the
position to be like if you want to just
dabble a little bit and try
 like being
uncomfortable I would say just go to a
coffee shop that isn't familiar because
that's also where do I stand in line
like where do I stand to wait for my
order like there's lots of little
uncertain things um like walk a
different route if you walk to work or
school because it's you don't know how
long it's going to take you you don't
know what you're going to walk past you
don't know like the streets potentially
that you have to take just there's lots
of like tiny little things that you
could do to slowly expose yourself as
 for more intense
things like I would say trying something
that is completely out of your
wheelhouse so like if you go to the gym
often maybe try going to a yoga class
lots of different variables if you are
comfortable in the gym and everything
maybe try going to like something
creative I feel like I lack creative
situations so if I was to go to like a
painting class or or a pottery class or
something that would be so uncomfortable
for me but being uncomfortable isn't bad
 right it's just you're learning
something new just go to anything that
you don't know how to do yeah and try to
do that because the more you're
 uncomfortable the more you become
 comfortable being uncomfortable does
that make sense it's just like training
in the gym the more you do it the better
you get at it and then new circumstances
 that are uncomfortable easier yeah
definitely I think moving to the city
for US helped me with that IM ly and
 probably moving into this building
because they do host like weekly events
and I usually only go to the monthly
wand because I'm comfortable going to
those ones but I could go to the other
ones like that um make me feel a little
bit more uncertain to put me out of my
comfort zone um and we have that
opportunity every week in our building
which is cool but you just have to look
because I have no doubt that you have
chosen a very comfortable path for every
single day of your life because that's
just what we do naturally M but yeah
very interesting yeah the next thing
that I wanted to talk about was starting
my training week on a Saturday I think
or a Sunday I'm not sure so obviously
being back at Uni my I have a schedule
now I mean I always have a schedule
 mentally but I have a schedule that's
out of my control which is I get very
used to just Dilly dallying around and
going to the gym when I want for as long
as I want every day um and anyone that
knows me knows that skipping a day in
the gym hurts my soul even if I'm not
training like intensely I just like the
act of going to the gym now so I'm at
Uni Monday Wednesdays and Fridays for
pretty much the whole day and they are
usually our big training days like the
 bigger
workouts so I have decided to start my
training week on a Saturday so I do
Monday's Big Workout on a Saturday and
then the Tuesday workout on a Sunday
mhm and then Monday I'll probably I
probably won't be able to go to the gym
and then I can do the next Big Workout
which would be Wednesday's workout on
Tuesday when I'm home Etc because the
start of the week the program is more
intense and my schedule is more intense
 so I'm just going
to start on the days where I don't have
a schedule Saturday Sunday so I'm going
to start the program on Saturday Sunday
when the world is my oyster pretty much
 um and I don't know why I haven't
thought about it or why we haven't
suggested it before because for most
people Mondays who want who the heck
wants to have had a weekend off and then
have to pack your lunch go to the gym
probably do the groceries go to work for
8 hours it seems very unrealistic to me
to do that but we all do that exact
thing I I think we have spoken about
this on the podcast a long time ago mhm
so if anybody has gone back and listened
to all those old episodes and it comes
up let us know but I think it's a great
idea out of all my clients the ones that
work out on a weekend get better results
 like hands down it's
just C and we talk about this all the
time creating new habits to achieve a
goal is what you need to do and working
out on the weekends is the best way to
do it because you have to sacrifice
other things to achieve those goals to
to go to the gym so you can't overdo it
on a Friday or Saturday night so true
didn't even think about that but you
can't go out and get pissed and just
stay out until 3:00 because You' got to
work out the next day so you know you
can still go out and have fun but you
got to say Hey you know to your friends
I've got to go home uh cuz I'm doing
this and I think that shows massive
resilience MH and it just creates real
strong habits and then like it's not a
bad thing like you're not going to miss
out everybody feels like they're going
to miss out but it's just like you know
your friends probably go oh [ __ ] like
he's really serious about this and
probably encourage you to do it more and
it just like you said you're getting
that done over the weekend there's no
reason why you can't you probably
actually have more energy on the
weekends because you haven't got work
and stress and all these other things so
you're probably going to get more out of
the workout because you got more effort
to put into it you probably got more
time to cook some decent food and in
that time on the weekend you can cook a
little bit more which is your food prep
for the week M um so I think it's a
 great
um obviously we haven't had to need to
do it too bad like again like my
 schedule's probably terrible and I don't
follow the program to the best of my
abilities anyway but again I just like
going in the gym and working out like
even if I only have time for two
exercise I'll go in and smash two
exercise or whatever it is like um I
don't get too fuss on that but for
somebody that's trying to achieve a goal
whether it's weight loss you know muscle
game whatever I think if you are serious
about it do it on the weekend
cuz the biggest thing I find is people
are putting everything first and then
their workout and their goals last yeah
so it's like oh yeah but I have to get
this work done I have to do this for
this friend I have to catch up with that
person for a coffee and then I'll get my
workout done where if you're doing it on
the weekend it's like well no I'm
looking after myself I'm getting this
done and then the rest of the week it's
okay because you've got your workouts
done so put you first and get it done on
 the weekend I think it's a great idea I
feel like it's it'll also help with like
 adherence right because I know
personally if I was to miss a Monday and
then say I missed a Tuesday intuitively
I would be like what's the point I might
as well start again Monday I mean I
wouldn't now because I've trained myself
to just get over it and start again
immediately as I notice but I know a lot
of people would just be like oh I've
I've fumbled the first half of the week
I'll just pick it up again on Monday um
and I feel like if you've already got
two workouts like Saturday Sunday in the
bag then it's a lot easier for you to
not fumble it you're like I'm already
halfway through the program this week I
might as well pick it up on Wednesday
even though I missed Monday Tuesday
that's okay but for some reason we're so
like our brains are so wired for like
this monthly calendar and this monthly
week that is completely and utterly made
up yeah your body doesn't care what day
day of the week it is it just wants to
move and ex exactly so on the weekend
let me know if you guys try it cuz I'm
very interested to see if it helps the
like take the pressure off the week
coming um yeah I know a few clients like
I said do do it and they smash out on
Sunday and I think it's great yeah they
 gets crazy results
yeah the next thing that I kind of
 wanted to
 discuss was
 carbs
so ironically the past two weeks we've
been super social been doing a lot of
events seeing friends going out for food
going to people's places for food and
 eating a lot of
carbs not that we don't eat carbs
normally like we do eat rice pasta bread
on a regular basis right but I mean like
we had fried chips fried chicken
burgers 20 scon not really 20 scon um
more bread wraps like there was just a
period of time last week where we had
the most refined carbohydrates we've had
in a long time in a short window of time
 and I just recognized
myself craving carbs like craving them
so hard like nothing would make me happy
or give me energy or make me feel better
apart from carbs I was like I want pizza
like I crave Pizza occasionally but I
was like I it was more like I need I
 need pizza I need bread
 like and it was in
because I don't think that we have done
that for a while right it's almost like
a carb overload and we are big advocates
for carbohydrates we're not like low
carb diet not at all people because your
 brain absolutely undoubtedly needs carbs
as energy it's the First Source for your
brain to function um but let's just talk
about refined carbs because I feel like
there is a big difference between you
having carbs normally and then you
having refined carbs normally and not
 being able to control
yourself probably not even just your
carb intake but your calorie intake in
general right just but what's a refined
carb just okay so a refined carb is like
a heavily processed fast digesting carb
 carbohydrate that spikes your insulin
and glucose quickly and drastically and
then causes it to drop quickly and
drastically um so that is like where you
hear the phrase carb crash or energy
crash is usually so things that are like
 white bread white pasta white
 rice chips
lollies I don't know shapes crackers
anything like that that's processed from
wheat usually I hope it's processed from
wheat if it's not processed from wheat
and it's like one of those things that I
just mentioned yikes get it out of your
diet um but yeah so anything that's like
heavily processed and gives you that
Spike and then energy crash um you want
to limit them even if you're having even
if your diet isn't as optimal as you
want it to be maybe consider those first
because like I already knew this but I
was like reaffirmed it on the weekend um
they're just going to make you have
insane Cravings like out of control
Cravings so like we're not saying don't
eat pasta eat pasta but eat pasta with
protein and vegetables so that you feel
satiated don't don't just have pasta and
cheese don't just have like a Hot Chip
butter and bread roll like carbs on
carbs on carbs because your brain it's
like it's your brain's main source of
energy so it's going to tell you that it
wants more because it gets a burst It's
Like Cocaine for your brain I was going
to say is that the reason why you start
craving it more and more when you have
it like soft drinks as well like you
have a soft drink it's a lot of sugar
it's a lot of energy and your brain's
like hell yeah yeah I feel so good right
now give me more energy but then it
crashes so then it's like quick give me
whatever we just had cuz I felt great 20
minutes ago so this is like where a
vicious cycle can happen but I don't I
really really don't want to say I'm
anti- carbs cuz I'm not I'm just like
the right carbs the right carbs and be
conscious of the amount because like we
had over a weekend period all of those
carbs a lot of people would have like
bread for breakfast a sandwich for lunch
cereal or cereal for breakfast a
sandwich for lunch and then say like
pasta or pizza or burger for dinner
that's just like carbs on carbs on carbs
and obviously that's that's so much so
many energy spikes and crashes so you're
constantly going to be looking for
something to replace that whereas if you
can it might take a couple of days as
well when you stop having refined carbs
to feel okay again because your brain is
still going to be like where is it I'm
waiting for it like we usually get it at
this time of the day um but once you get
out out of it like out of the hamster
wheel of seeking High refined carbs all
the time you'll feel so much better like
your energy levels will be so much more
stable how energetic am I today can you
tell guys can you tell how energetic I
am and it's because it's been like two
days of us being back to our
normal um menu of food like protein
veggies and a little cups is basically
what we eat on a daily basis but like
Monday oh my God I was like sad and slow
Lish and hungry and thirsty and
unsatisfied all at the same time because
 I'd just like done stupid [ __ ] all
weekend but yeah um are we talking about
the McDonald's thing yeah why not but I
just wanted to I think that ties into
 all perfectly because McDon like
McDonald's and any fast food or chips or
anything you find in the supermarket
they have dialed that in perfectly
perfectly so it's a perfect so
McDonald's bun is the perfect mixture of
sugar so carbohydrates and fats in a bun
Donuts all that sort of stuff they're
just the perfect mix and a lot of people
like oh no but it's just um carbs
there's a lot of fat in there as well
and it's just the perfect signal for
your brain to go oh my God what was that
give me more so that food is addictive
as well and what we're about to talk
 about is how McDonald's
basically created a whole another way to
make you even more addicted to all their
 food as
well which is the kiosk I didn't realize
I mean everything around us has
psychology in it everything is there to
manipulate us but I didn't realize how
 manipulative the mac's K McDonald's
chaos is but this is what I I've said
this in many episodes like if you don't
obsess about your food somebody else is
going to obsess about it and McDonald's
is obsessed about you eating food so
they spend billions of dollars so the
 kiosk
is said to have made McDonald's an extra
$2.1 billion globally but still 21 $ 1580.12 billion extra in sales so not just in
Sal but extra sales on top of what they
were already making so like we we we'll
link the video that I watched that I
sent to you to watch as well go and
watch this especially if you do it at
 McDonald McDonald's I don't I can't
remember the last time I've actually
eaten there and used a kiosk yeah when
you actually said the kiosk I was like
 what the what's a kiosk at McDonald's
because like self- sered checkout type
thing I know now cuz I watch the video
but because we don't go to McDonald's I
wasn't like it took my brain didn't
automatically know what you were talking
about which is crazy right um I think
the only time I've used it was when we
were still living in bdale and I was
still in my party era and we would the
club was across from McDonald's and we
would go to McDonald's after the club
and I remember the first time we used
the kiosk we were all drunk but it was
such a novelty it was so exciting it was
like a game and that's the whole point
right that's the whole point of the
chaos and it was just like oh it's
saying we could get nuggets on this
 let's yeah let's get nuggets we didn't
know we wanted nuggets but now we do so
let's get them oh you want to upsize it
 and we're like it's it's a freaking game
and it's so scary to like but the one
example they had in the video it's like
you go in just for a burger and all you
want is a burger but the chaos is that
good and that manipulative that you end
up with two burgers side of nuggets
sauce chips and a dessert and a drink
and that's about 2,000 if not more
calories in that one meal yeah and to
people who don't know that is a daily
intake for basically me mhm and I'm
 about 95 to 100
kilos and that's enough food for me for
that in one meal like it's just like
going to a petrol station and filling up
your car and then standing there and
putting double in there and just going
to keep leaking at the top yeah and it's
just like you would look like a fool
doing that but that's what you're doing
to your body but also like why are the
kiosks I'm really interested in why the
kiosks are so effective one I think you
don't have to interact with a human
which a lot of people like right now
there's which takes away the pressure of
you making a decision right but it's
also like you're telling somebody that
you want all this food like this food
that's you know it's not good for you it
takes that barrier away as well yeah so
you don't have to go up to someone you
don't have to tell someone the unhealthy
food that you want there's no one
necessarily waiting in line behind you
and also listening to what you're
 ordering as well um
you don't have to feel guilty about
upsizing if they try to upsale you like
that's just the person part of the kiosk
but then when you order in the kiosk
like the design of it is there to
manipulate you like just take notice of
what how what next time if you go to
mackers I hope you don't but if you do
just take note of the design and like
think about what could be manipulating
you like for example they list the
burgers in order of most expensive to
 least expensive
so that you feel less guilty like cuz
you see like oh that's a $7 Burger yikes
I'll get the $4 burger and save money on
momento go to the next page and then it
will say oh you got the $4 Burger maybe
you want to get fries and coke with that
and you're like you know what I do so
then you add fries and coke and every
time you add something to your bag it
comes up with a little bag like aoon
with a tick like you've won a freaking
game like you've done something right
you've something right and then it will
take you to the next page and like oh
wait a second look you could get nuggets
or this weird Pizza I don't know they
sold like pizza pockets there I think it
depends like the menu different country
yeah true or like this McFlurry and
 you're like oh that's yeah I could
really and you just it's endless like
you could endlessly add those things no
 one's judging you because it's a machine
and then you pay in your yeah you get
you 2,000 2,000 calories for the day and
your set but it's so there so much
 manipulation it's insane it's so
McDonald's first is a real estate
business so those that don't know
McDonald's Main revenue is their real
estate so they have the most real estate
out of every company in the world what
in some of the best locations in each
city in the world yeah of course um and
now I reckon they're a tech company so
$ 1854.80 billion that's more than pretty much
every tech company in Australia would
 make yeah um
but the algorithm like they go on the
video they actually change the video and
what certain people see on the screen to
just tweak the algorithm so it's is
absolutely perfect so you end up
spending more money and getting more
food than than what you wanted it's
absolutely crazy should we go to ma up
the road just to play with it I'll end
up with 4,000 calories worth of food I
wouldn't I feel like the smell like when
you don't have it for so long the smell
is just it's kind of off ping now m I
don't know but yeah so so interesting I
highly recommend the YouTube video cuz
it's yeah please go if you do it even if
you don't it's super interesting again
it just goes into the thing like into
the theory that I say that you know you
need to focus you need to obsess about
what you putting in your body cuz
 McDonald's is absolutely obessed
obsessed about it and I'm willing to
spend whatever it takes to get you to
eat their food yeah um so yeah go and
 watch it
it's very eye opening it's pretty cool
um really cool and yeah it's just cool
to see and then like the worst thing is
like in the video they say every other
fast food chain is just copied and they
all have the same algorithm same kiosks
so it's just like it's just even more i'
I watch that and then I walk past the
KFC near the gym and I've never noticed
how busy it is and I sort of had a quick
squeeze in there and yeah just everybody
crazy just at the chaos just and I was
like sh it like cuz works it's real
we're out of the freaking Loop yeah so
if you watch it and you have an
experience doing it let us know cuz
we're obviously not going to have
 experience going to McDonald's and
eating it yeah and using the kiosks
something else that we are massively out
of the loop on I've noticed is the
Olympics what is up did we miss the boat
I remember when I was a kid being really
excited by the Olympics and being really
inspired by the Olympics now it's mean
 but I just don't I feel like I'm missing
something am I missing something yeah I
feel like is it because there's not as
 much H I don't feel like there's as much
hype around it this time because no one
really wants to host it so maybe there's
not as emphasis there's not as much
emphasis on bringing attention to it I
don't know I don't know sort of keeping
an eye on it here and there but I'm not
stay I'm not up at 2 a.m. to watch a
certain event live yeah but some people
still are some people still are um yeah
I don't know it could just I was
thinking that as well it could just be
we are out of the loop but also again
like I've been lot watching the business
side of things and seeing how more and
more people don't want to host the
Olympics because it's just not worth it
financially for the city that that is
hosting it or the country um and yeah
 it's just interesting like
but it's is that again just the product
of where we are cuz you know back in the
day we didn't have social media and all
that sort of stuff to watch it that's
what I was going to say I was we had to
watch it on TV if you don't watch it on
TV you're not going to watch you're not
going to see it but now you can sort of
 follow along like you can
follow if you're interested in a sport
you're obviously going to have a
favorite athlete and you just follow
that athlete you're probably going to
learn as much as you need to without
 actually watching the Olympics that's
what I was thinking I've watched a lot
of like the gym gymnasts gymnastics is I
don't know why I'm I'm have an interest
in gymnastics who knows but so much of
it is on like my Tik Tok feed I don't
even slightly feel the need to go and
watch the long event when I can just
watch them do their freaking winning
flip across the platform you know what I
mean like the the gratification for
seeing them win is so much easier to get
on my phone than it would be for me to
commit to watching the whole event which
does is that going to negatively impact
the Olympics like what is even why are
we still even doing it like because
obviously it matters to a lot of people
because there's still a lot of athletes
 that are
 competing
right because if they just stop hosting
the Olympics what do all of these
athletes do exactly exactly like they
probably dedicate their whole lives to
go into the Olympics because it is a
pretty incredible title to hold getting
a gold medal medal at the Olympics yeah
 but
then the popularity of each sport is
 growing obviously
um let's take mountain biking or even
surfing so surfing is in the Olympics
now uh it's I think it was actually done
in Tahiti cuz uh France didn't have good
 waves so it's a bit weird again that's a
whole another topic but like surfing now
I feel like the actual surfing itself as
a sport has gotten more popular because
of social media so the Olympics is sort
of on comparison with the social media
if that makes sense it's l not like
again you can watch it all through
social media rather than you know just
watching it on TV I feel like it's more
diluted in a good way because an athlete
be can become popular and good at that
Sport and make a living outside the
Olympics where before it was only the
Olympics like you would only go and
compete at the Olympics to make money
now you can make money on social media
being a you know top level aete like
athlete that's you know entertaining on
Tik Tok and that sort of stuff so yeah I
think that's sort of taken away from it
as well but um but I feel like the the
 Olympics
itself the governing body needs to maybe
step up a little bit as well yeah what
is that role even they're just like who
wants it we're holding it and someone
someone put your hand up and then we'll
just give it to you and see you later
that's how it appears I feel like they
need to come into the whole social media
World a little bit more and you know
have a channel and broadcast it all over
social media yeah they lose TV rides and
all that sort of stuff but that's where
everybody is no one's on TV any like the
new generation coming through so if you
don't cater to that new generation
coming through the popularity is just
going to get less and less so I feel
like but they sort of just put it up to
the city so say brisbane's hold holding
 it in
2032 it's like up to Brisbane to use
social media to pump the advertise but
then again they're not really allowed to
because of TV rights but I feel like the
Olympic should be doing more to engage
audience and be their own brand if that
makes sense instead of each City it goes
to yeah that would make a lot more sense
because especially because there's a big
gap in between when they host each games
yeah I was thinking about how I saw a
real ironically about um like the
Olympics at some point in the 1900s a
gymnast event and like what was gold
medal performance and this woman is just
like prancing across like the padded
floor like doing little jumps and stuff
and she did like a back bend what do you
call it a like where you put your hands
back over your head and you flip and
stand up again whatever that's called
and she did that and then did like a
little pose and it was like Wow and that
won the Olympics and now you see like is
 it Simone
B boy B who is just absolutely dominated
the gymnastics this year for the US um
and she is just like absolutely throwing
her body across that like mat like doing
flips and Twirls and [ __ ] but the amount
of skill and intensity between that
event in the 1900s and the event now in
2024 Insanity like absolutely insane but
I also feel like maybe because of social
media it's not as impressive because you
can see that that kind of [ __ ] on the
internet anywhere whereas back in like
 say I don't know when
 1940
1950 to see that was really rare like to
see a bodybuilder was super rare like
these people were freaks because it
wasn't they didn't have as much exposure
like people couldn't see that kind of
stuff and so obviously there wasn't much
 competition either whereas now it's
everywhere so the competition is much
higher the skill has to be much higher
the dedication has to be much higher I
don't know yeah and I reckon in the last
say 50 years which is what our parents
era of you know they they're probably
the biggest you know Olympic people like
 fans at the
moment over the last 50 years you're
right we've had such an increase
 of technicality and performance and
probably a lot of drugs in
between like where can we go from now
it's like but like each year each every
four years the last 50 years like you
watch the athletes just get better
better better and the sports gets better
better better and now it's sort of like
I feel like it's almost plateaued sure
they're almost at Peak capacity cuz
 that's what's it it's almost like okay
well we all know you're you're doping so
just keep doping as much as you want to
go to the next level whatever that looks
like because what it like you know how
else can they be better than they are
now yeah for the last you know say five
Olympics it's all almost looked the same
like no like yeah somebody dominates and
there's going to be a genetic Freak come
through every now and then that goes a
little bit better you say bolt is a good
 example like that like absolutely
dominated and made it look easy but you
know that's one in one you know yeah is
that going to happen more like I feel
like now this Olympics everybody's at
the same level that Usain B was you know
like yeah like there's less anomalies
yeah harder it's just everybody's that
good it all looks the same yeah and it's
 not getting better
interesting love to hear what everybody
thinks anyway out there um but yeah
definitely jump on our social media Inu
pod on social on podcast on Instagram is
what I was get Tik and Tik Tok and just
drop us a comment would love to know
what you think about the Olympics and if
it's overhyped underhyped worth it for
the athletes or not athletes we should
follow maybe that are super human super
humans athletes that would want to come
on the and talk about this actual topic
would be amazing imagine um awesome
again thank you for all your support 201
episodes down uh and we'll talk to you
all in the next episode bye
