workout program which includes a workout
every single day to get you ripped to
get you jacked to get you ripped uh also
 workout challenges behind the scenes
content so I tend to post a few more I
guess useful hints tips videos podcasts
that we find interesting in that
Community as well uh I just find I just
don't really bother posting that sort of
stuff to social media anymore because no
one really sees it and it's only there
for about 2 seconds yeah where this it's
there forever and you can go back and
use those resources as much as you need
so if you'd like to be a part of all
that become a supporter of this show and
 you'll get
access sound good no reason not to
 really
 exactly all right wrapping
up go on you've got a long list of news
topics wrap up things to discuss today I
do first thing before I reckon before we
get to the next wrap up in another month
or so the CrossFit Games would have
 happened
wo what do you want me to say exactly I
feel like CrossFit games are just
getting smaller and smaller every single
year do crossfitters even care about the
CrossFit games anymore but is it because
we are getting further and further away
from Crossfit because when we were in
CrossFit think about it like what did we
know 40 50 people at the CrossFit gym we
were at in all Dolla and so everyone
there knew about it everyone there was
talking about it we see those people
four five six times a week
so it feels like a big deal when you're
in it maybe now because we're out of it
we don't notice as much but then again
the CrossFit YouTubers that we used to
watch I feel like they're struggling
with having content to make cuz CrossFit
 just isn't
it like The Buttery Bros they're doing
more hrock content than CrossFit content
so they were the the CrossFit they
produced and filmed and did all the
 stuff for the the
documentaries kind of do good ones that
used to be on Netflix yeah and now
they're not even doing CrossFit content
um couple other vloggers again same
thing sort of what there's not much to
talk about there which is weird cuz it
was so big it could have been so big
like theoretically it's almost like a
yearly Olympics because the workouts and
stuff that you can do are endless right
and people from all around the world
 compete against different people from
different countries so like I feel like
it had the potential to be really cool
 sport to actually like
follow but even we watched some news
CrossFit news thing the other day on
YouTube and they were like where are all
of like the OG athletes everyone's
leaving CrossFit where are they going
they're just not competing in the games
because the CrossFit Games doesn't offer
much anymore or both cuz like there's
 the Rogue Invitational which apparently
is it's like CrossFit but it pays more
and it's better yeah that was going to
be my first point like all these other
comps coming up CrossFit competitions or
Fitness competitions you can win more
money than actual CrossFit games so it's
not really worth going to like you get
the title of being the world's fittest
person but does that really mean
anything if you didn't win all the other
comps that are out there I find a lot of
the Australian OG crossfitters are going
to H rocks and partnering with hrock and
doing High Ro things these days which is
 just a if you don't know it's a easier
not definitely not an easier version of
CrossFit it's a standardized workout so
 it's a same workout simplified I think
 more simplified there's no Olympic
lifting there's no barbells there's no
 dumbbells there's CER Bells sandbags
sled like rowing ski W walls so simple
things running things that pretty much
everybody can do there's no technical
things to it like Olympic lifting and
that's like gymnastics so it's very easy
to get into it's not easy to do but I
think that draws a lot of people to that
 rather than Crossfit because there's
 that technical I don't know I I actually
enjoy the technical side of things yeah
like learning new skills and you know
yeah you don't see any results from it
but you do learn new skills which is
something I like but obviously not
everybody likes I think the only thing
that I miss from doing CrossFit I don't
even know if I miss it necessarily but
the only thing that I when we did
 CrossFit I really enjoyed the
competitiveness and like the cardio burn
because the workouts like sure there's
weights involved in a class but the
workouts are like they're cardio right
whereas now that we just do
weightlifting oh I struggle so much to
 do cardio I don't know if it's cuz it's
by myself but like you've been putting
like little wads so like little
cardio how would you describe them like
little finishes I guess at the end of
the weight lifting session and I avoid
them like they're going to kill me
whereas CrossFit we would do them every
single day You' avoid the weightlifting
like going a kill you yeah and now all I
want to do is lift weights I don't give
a crap about cardio but um I feel like
yeah I guess if CrossFit was done better
it would be such a good way to stay in
shape because it has both right I think
unfortunately it was CrossFit it's the
business crossfit's fault as well they
just kept changing things like how you
get how you you know how the opens run
how you qualify the standards there's it
 changes every single year and
 everybody's just like me what's
happening yeah why would I bother doing
that when I could go do this horox thing
where it's just going do it type thing
um but you better start practicing your
cardio cuz I'm going to start adding WS
 in for the weekly
challenges it's been quite easy at the
not easy but again entry level but it's
going to kick up a notch a little bit in
the next couple of weeks great uh which
leads to bodybuilding comps there's been
a few big bodybuilding comps on recently
so all the influencers all the
 bodybuilders have been looking super
lean the best they ever possibly look so
 obviously they're just pumping the
content and then everybody's looking at
their own body going well why don't I
look like that is that why I've noticed
 I've said severely noticed clients
friends acquaintances just people at the
 minute being unhappy with their
appearance their body in particular it's
so so predominant at the minute is that
why you think because social media is
 just being saturated with like
 competition ready bodies yep like
athletes these people are athletes keep
in mind like they dedicate everything to
looking this way and they only look this
way for a day yeah right like they're
this Peak physique for one day and then
 it's over and they'll they'll still look
great like no doubt but not what they're
posting yeah and they look great leading
up to it obviously and give them another
month they're probably going to have
some downtime so they're not going to
look as good but yeah I'd reckon I've
experienced the same thing a lot of
clients a lot of people in the gym you
know I've been going to the gym where's
my six-pack M and it just does not work
like that and unfortunately I think it
is due to I reckon it's getting worse
and worse every single year cuz I do
notice this every year after like some
of the big bodybuilding comps are on and
a lot of the influencers SL bodybuilders
 are doing the
shows there seems to be a trend in
 people disliking their
 body and then you know
obviously what it would be summer on the
other side of the globe as well which
doesn't help so everybody's got their
tops off oh and then there's us over
 here you mean like
feeling out of shap cold yeah sad the
 sun doesn't come out
I can relate to that though honestly
yeah I feel like every weal I swear to
God we talked about this this time last
year everyone around us right now is sad
just because of the weather and like
Melbourne isn't even the worst place to
live for the weather in winter you know
like there's plenty of other places that
have it bad but it's still actively
noticeable every single day that the
weather makes everyone just feel down
about themselves and about life in
general and there definitely are days
where the sun doesn't come out like
 today yeah almost did
um so yeah I just and I want to bring
that up just so people are a bit more
aware of it I guess it's better for us
cuz we are I don't know I'm aware of it
and I don't judge my body on other
people which is definitely hard to do
and hard to learn but again I just want
people to notice like what you're
consuming can influence what you think
of yourself I feel like we've only been
talking about that over the last couple
 of shows as well
 self-comparison the average Paradox all
that sort of stuff so go back and have a
listen to those if you're feeling down
because you probably are killing it
you're just trying to compare yourself
 to the top
0.1% of the population who are
absolutely ripped at the moment cuz
 they're bodybuilders I almost I was this
close to bringing a news article today
about actually let me I've probably got
 it saved
about um mental health and how it's
changed for young people in relation to
 specifically in relation to social
media actually cutting like now that you
mentioned it I've had about four guys in
the gym come up to me and ask me how to
cut like cut body fat yeah and I'm like
you don't have anything to cut if you
cut now you would look terrible because
you haven't got any muscle and it's
because all these other influences are
obviously going through their cuts into
their bodybuilding shows so they're like
well if I do that I'll look like that
and it's like no they've been training
for 20 years 10 years whatever to and
then they do a cut and then they look
great you got to build muscle first but
that's just again that just goes into
the influence of all these people doing
 these bodybuilding shows influencing the
general public thinking that they need
to do that but you don't need to do that
yeah and I feel like you
can yeah I don't know what it is about
cutting but you can see if you go and
follow a bodybuilder on YouTube there's
heaps of do vlogs and stuff and you
watch their videos they will talk about
how absolutely awful they feel when
they're cutting and when they're at
their low on their lowest calories right
um so anyway this study is new
 researchers found a long-term link
between social media and poor youth
 mental health
so the research found this is from
 government data analyzing mental health
Trends so take it as you will but
 Australian men and women
 from 2001 to
2022 it found that mental health mental
health levels worsened across the board
especially in young women and I can't
even I really need to share the graph
because the graph the drop in the graph
is insane say that it's gone
from you being 75% happy out of 100 most
 of the time for females
 it's now an
 average of
61% out of 100 being happy most of the
time so it's like a what 20% decline
since 2001 between then and now I mean
covid also happened yeah so there's that
 to consider
but I just feel like it's it's just more
and more prominent but we're just like
 it's here to stay
so let's just get on with our lives you
know what I mean M like what do we it's
never going to go away now yeah so what
is everyone supposed to do about being
 sad all the
time stop judging yourself and comparing
yourself to others just have to do the
work yeah quotations for lack of a
 better word like internally and
externally external get in the gym do
the work and just be happy to do the
work and be healthy and functioning yeah
like living a long healthy and happy
life is the best thing you can do forget
about what you look like focus on that
first and I feel like once you focus on
those and that's a lot easier said than
done but once you living a healthy happy
and you know it's going to be a long
life it looks just a side thing yeah
yeah just a bonus I guess um but yeah
it's it's a huge Topic at the moment and
I feel like it's just getting worse and
worse and I I don't know if it is
because of the bodybuilding CS happening
at the moment I don't think the
bodybuilding has it that big of a pull
 right I don't know don't know cuz I was
 don't
know because how many of our clients
would know or even be in the realm of
these bodybuilders on social media not
all of our clients even have social
media true but the ones that have been
talking about it do have social
 media
anyway you all look great you're killing
it don't worry about what you look be
healthy and happy um all right is it
more exciting I I do like this topic
because I I come across this
article uh and the guy presenting the
article was like anti influencers making
products MH and he didn't think and he
thought this was a bad idea and it's you
know these people shouldn't be doing
this and I I was sort of watching it I
agree but then sort of thought about it
and I disagree with him now I think they
should be doing it so let me get to the
point so petera everybody knows petera
like pet say his full name properly
 Peter AA
yep is probably the go-to longevity guy
um and he is a pretty big influencer I
really R stuff he talks from a
 scientific background but also
anodically because he works with people
on these things as well so it's not just
 here's a study showing this he's like
here's what the study shows here's what
happened with my clients and he has a
big practice so he has many doctors
under him as well and he collaborates
with many other scientists so I trust
his stuff so he is suing Aura ring so
Aura ring is a ring that obviously goes
on your finger read your sleep we've
never used one it's it's similar to
whooop how we've spoken about whoop and
Apple watch in the way it just tracks
your body metric so sleep daily exer
version and I'm pretty sure like a some
sort of activity score as well yeah so
it gives your recovery scores activity
scores tracks everything um so Peter AA
is suing them for 1.2 million because he
 was an early scientific
 investor Scientific Advisor sorry yeah
um and his role was to basically help
develop the ring into a good product but
 also use his
social media presence to push sales
MH uh and influence other scientists to
use a rings in their studies as well
so is that a good thing or a bad thing
so basically he's suing them because
he's owed a certain amount of shares and
those certain amount of shares are worth
 1.2 million so
basically with big companies like that
early investors or advisers get a share
dividend rather than a money monetized
like a payout or a certain amount of
money so when the when the company's
actually worth something they can take
those shares and sell them if they want
or hold on to them so obviously it helps
the business grow because they don't
have to give somebody 1.2 million
straight up MH so are you asking if him
being a part of a ring and trying to
push a ring onto other scientists to use
in research is good or bad and push on
to his following following yeah so yeah
 I mean if he's I think it's fine if he's
investing in it and he's pushing it to
his following I would say that's fine
 because he's invested a significant
amount into it so he obviously believes
in it regardless of whether it works or
not he believes it works so he didn't
invest any money into it he only gets
money if he makes or ring money okay so
he if he grows a business he gets money
if he doesn't he doesn't get anything m
mhm so he's obviously got that money
like that money in in the background and
knowing if I grow this business as big
as possible I'm going to make as much as
possible so if he gets 100,000 shares if
he can grow this business to I think it
was valued at something some stupid
billion dollar company if you can grow
it to 10 billion those Shares are going
to be worth 100 million you know what I
 mean yeah
 so is it good that
 he's in like being pushed
 to I guess
inflate is he inflating the value of it
or I think anyone does that anyway with
any product that's what you do you have
a product you believe in it you try to
get it to make money right regardless of
whether you're a scientist an influencer
 a Salesman a marketing person a company
of any description I think when you have
a product the whole goal is to push the
 product onto whoever you're connected
with to make money I feel like it's just
different now now because people have a
big social influence so it's easy for
Outsiders to say it's bad because he's
just trying to make money he's just
trying to make money when theoretically
it's just a maybe a lower entry way for
him to make money like if he made a ring
before social media existed and he how
would you sell it like he was doing ads
on the TV maybe radio Flyers knocking on
doors I think it's the same thing as him
pushing it through his podcast or social
 media
platforms so I think it's fine I think
 it's just a good way again I don't think
it's bad like he obviously wants to make
a great product from what I know it is a
great product and it is one of the best
trackers out there um so I think they've
done a good job in making a really good
product so why wouldn't you want that to
grow so obviously as a business grows
they're going to be able to create a
better product as well so if you've got
a following to leverage that yeah even
better I think it's even better and what
about the science side of it because I I
feel like when you talk me this earlier
in the week you said something about
how it was bad not beneficial for him to
be pushing it onto other scientists to
use well again has he like got a
 conflict of interest recommending this
to other scientists to use in a sleep
 study
so cuz then like if people see oh that
that aura Ring's been used in all these
sleep studies AA ring must be the best
but it's just perod is saying hey guys
use this aing instead of the other stuff
you're using so again is that good or
bad yeah like again but it could be good
because the more studies done with the
aing is going to improve the data which
 improves the
product or is it just a way to let Aura
dominate The Market in and out of the
 science
yeah so if if and then the question is
if AA ring didn't have Peter AA on as a
scientific adviser would they be the
company they are now yeah even if it is
a good product or not yeah so yeah I
just found that super interesting then
obviously I was diving into that which
goes and then athletic greens ag1 come
 up as you
know a scam what do you mean every every
every piece of content you listen to on
the internet ag1 sponsors every YouTuber
every podcaster if you listen to
podcasts or you go on YouTube I have no
doubt that you've heard of ag1 because
it's everywhere everywhere and I think
that's why it's so successful so ag1 was
actually founded by a New Zealander
which it's cool when you're an
Australian and something's founded by in
Australian or in New Zealander because
we put ourselves close together I guess
against the rest of the world so
 apparently I won't I can't I didn't take
this guy's name down but it's not that
important but apparently he got ran out
of New Zealand because he was ripping a
whole heap of people off in the Housing
Industry doing all these dodgy things he
got sued for a couple of million and
then he left for America and then
decided to start a supplement company so
anybody can just sort of put some
packaging together the as we've said in
 previous podcast the supplement industry
 in America is not
really um governed or regulated where in
Australia and New Zealand especially New
Zealand's even uh better than Australia
it's very regulated so we can't just go
and put some stuff in a bag and say hey
here's this new supplement it's against
the laws here where you can do that in
America so this guy has done that he's
just gone to America and just started
putting this stuff in a bag and said
 athletic
greens obviously paid a lot of money to
get a good name a good ring name and
then I think the success has come from
 the
um the money that this is why we don't
do podcast in the afternoon uh the
 reimbursement from influencer selling
okay yeah so do do you have a stance on
whether it's good or bad so the the
again the articles that I went into
basically athletic greens is a waste of
time you're better off just eating some
vegetables as we've always said okay but
in comparison to like a compacted or
capsule multivitamin yeah so multi so
we've also spoken about how synthetic
 multivitamins don't really get absorbed
 by your
body but in a in a double blind tests
 synthetic um supplements vitamins like
so the hard press capsules were actually
 more beneficial than athletic
greens so um a but hbes just
Andrew hman is one of the biggest
advocates for athletic greens every big
podcaster that I listen to is an
advocate every big podcaster that I
trust did no that I still
trust like says that athletic greens is
the best but who's they're not doing the
studies on it either taking and I think
it is so successful because all these
 podcasters are getting really big
Kickbacks for pushing this stuff so I
believe they get quite a lot of money
from the first sale or however it
works athletic greens is actually a
 subscription so I don't again I can't
remember how it worked but these guy
broke it down and these guys are getting
a shitload of money from pushing this
 product
and if you dive right into the research
 there's actually been
 some a whistleblower from athletic
greens who's been fired from them
obviously now so he was in the
packaging he was in charge of the the
compounds and the ingredients coming in
and then it getting packaged and then
sending it out M and some ingredients
come in it had mold in it and it was a
big order so if he had said like send it
like he wanted to send it back and get
rid of it because it had mold in it but
it would have like just ruined their
supply chain and it would have set them
back a couple of months of getting this
so they used it anyway they used it
anyway so this guy's come out and said
this is what happened don't buy athletic
greens oh so and again it's not
regulated in America so they could do
that where in Australia it's completely
 different
so a whole big batch went out that
actually had mold in it mold in it yeah
that's terrifying cuz some mold can
 really [ __ ] you up especially if you're
drinking it yeah I feel like that could
 be very bad W so there's and there's a
couple of stories like that around
athletic greens so it's just like it
 actually isn't a good company
and yeah but I think it's become so
popular because it's so good to push so
you know as if we were to start pushing
it we'd make a decent amount of money if
people started using it and like would
get a subcription base yeah so you know
it is quite that money incentive for
influencers to push athletic greens is
there so it's a good not a good idea
it's a good income stream for them yeah
so again this is almost a flip side I
think Aura ring is a good product and
yeah pedota should be pushing it and
should be recommending it so to make a
good product but then on the other side
you got athletic greens which is
 actually a pretty [ __ ] product but is
pushed by a lot of influencers it's like
who do you trust yeah this is like I
love working with people and I love us
doing the podcast but I don't know the
last couple of months I've felt so lost
and deflated about what to share with
our audience because so so much stuff
like this happens like I only want to
share real beneficial true things that I
find but how do I even know what is good
what's real because every time we find
something that we trust and we think is
the way something new comes out and it's
not the way does that make sense I think
it's just more like obviously the basics
always work yeah but there's only so
many times that you and I can talk about
the basics eat good food drink water
sleep and exercise what more is there to
say yeah you know yeah and that's
 literally but obviously everybody's
trying to find the quick way and you
know things to help them do that and you
know obviously there's people out there
that are willing to you know
sacrifice a good product to make money
 yeah and influence that
way okay one more topic let's go back to
 talking about body composition
do you think from with your experience
and your knowledge would you suggest a
split based workout program or a full
body based workout program is better for
 body recomposition body recomposition
means building muscle while you lose
body fat at the same time everybody's
goal everybody's goal build muscle get
body fat yeah so what would you think is
 the
best the best workout style oh got the
asked this question the other day he's
like oh I'm doing a split splits are
good aren't they I said splits are for
[ __ ] do a full body full body workout
3 4 days a week and you get so many more
benefits like you're going to get more
 muscle stimulus obviously you're working
a lot harder so you're going to be M
burning more calories like if you're
just working your back and biceps that's
or try I don't know anyway however you
work your splits you're just not working
that many muscle groups yes you're
pushing that muscle group super hard but
come on really yeah like how about you
push every single muscle in your body
three to four times a week now we're
talking like now you're getting some
good stimulus happening in your body
you're telling your body to build muscle
because it's stressing your body out in
a good way and it's more act you're
getting more activity in you're going to
be step moving around a whole lot more
in your workout it's more activity so
more like obviously body I it's not
obvious though because cuz I feel like
for again yes but these bodybuilders at
the moment doing all their splits
 they're bodybuilders they're athletes
exactly but the general public sees that
them doing that and they think this is
what I need to do Usain Bol is probably
 the best
Sprinter that I know of I don't know any
of the new guys but you say Bob Snoop
 [Laughter]
Dog no um but you same Bol YouTube you
same bolts workout and and if you seen
here Usain Bolt is looks incredible
 absolutely incredible like ripped as
most 100 meter sprinters are ripped
because they're just absolute power and
 muscle tearing down a
Runway but you look up his workouts
they're boring as hell and all he does
is run yeah cuz he's getting good at
running yeah and that's what I mean like
you if you wanted to look like us say
bolt you wouldn't do his like us morals
wouldn't do his training because we
would just get good at sprinting yeah we
wouldn't look like him like he's also a
genetic freak yeah and if you want to
look like a bodybuilder you need to go
like if you watch the an Doos on Netflix
SP was so Australian ofie watch the an
Doos what the heck but if you go back to
when he first started lifting he was
doing full body a lot of times a week
and a lot of volume he wasn't doing
splits he was doing full body and that's
when he first started Jack is very
passionate about this obviously I came
came here with some research sorry Jesus
okay so a new study had well trained so
they already well trained men perform a
strength training program as either a
full body split or a body part split
does that make sense mm they trained
every muscle group either five or one
times per week depending on the split
with the same number of sets after eight
weeks the full body group lost more fat
 and gained more lean
mass in and strength in Squat and bench
 1
RMS the full body group had the greatest
gains on all measures in absolute terms
even despite being in lower energy
balance so they were in a lower energy
balance because they were full body
split they used more energy so they were
 using more
energy and still building muscle and
losing body fat at the same time
some research also suggests full body
 routines are more appetite suppressing
 than split
 routines although this effect again
seems to come down to a total workout
volume why do you think that a full body
is more appetite suppressing than a
split um yeah so I come across this the
other day as well so working out
 actually helps with suppressing your
appetite mhm and again you working every
single muscle in your body that signal
is going to be bigger than just doing
 your
biceps so that the appetite surpressing
signal is going to be bigger yeah okay
so cuz every single muscle in your body
is being worked rather than just one or
two muscle groups so the signal is just
bigger yeah yeah like I I see this in
the gym all the time like shout out to
Hugo Hugo's get been getting great
results um he's just a hard Gainer so
it's taken him a little bit longer but
he's now like his body's visibly changed
and I've had him on um split programs
for his whole train like since he
started with me and you see other guys
no so Hugo's been on full body yeah but
then you see the other guys in the gym
who are on doing their splits for the
same like for 12 months their body
hasn't changed to think like they think
they have and they S stand in the mirror
flexing but their body hasn't changed
where somebody like Hugo started off
well under them is now almost above them
them cuz he been doing full
body and I'm yet to see their bodies
change cuz they're on splits yeah but
yeah they get a sweet bicep pump but
that doesn't mean anything if your
body's not growing muscle I also feel
like it's more time effective like if
we're talking to the general population
right now 100% you need a lot more time
to go in and do a split workout and a
lot more days in the week than if you
can easily just get away with doing
three full body workouts a week and see
physical change in your body right
whereas a split if you miss a day you
miss a whole muscle group a whole side
the front the back legs like you miss a
whole area of your body which is crazy
to me cuz like it's 3:00 right now I
really don't want to go to the gym but
it's probably okay because we can just
catch up tomorrow yeah you know you're
going to be working your legs tomorrow
my whole body tomorrow yeah like your
legs are the biggest muscle group I
reckon in the in your body like if
you're thinking about legs is one muscle
group chest is one and then back's one
legs are the biggest one so you want to
work that big muscle group as often as
possible cuz that's going to be sending
 like a muscle building signal
suppressing your hunger signal burn fat
signal like so if you miss that one week
it's almost two weeks without working
your legs and without getting that
signal of course you're not going to get
 great
results good topic interesting full body
everybody make sure it's happening and
if you support the podcast then you can
get the best full body workout program
that there is exactly the program that
we're doing right now good program and
it's properly phased properly written um
so you shouldn't just be doing the same
exercises three days a week yeah so you
should be working your legs three times
a week but it's three different like
three different are like work exercises
each week MH to a certain extent if
you're wondering and curious how what
that looks like support the show and
